About DELREC

DELREC seeks to empower every K-12 student in Delaware with knowledge of the justice system, with opportunities and pipelines to careers in law, and to experiences with the legal profession. We leverage the power of partnerships with teachers, attorneys, nonprofit organizations, and schools to create access to justice for all.

Mission and vision

Mission: to provide active learning experiences and skills development for students who need to function in a society based on the rule of law, by:

  1. fostering a greater understanding of the law and judicial branch among students in Delaware schools;
  2. encouraging and supporting participation of students in Delaware in Law Related Education;
  3. providing access to students in Delaware to information about careers in the legal and public service sectors; and
  4. supporting access to the programs and fostering interest in legal careers.

Betsy Renzo, Esq

Both an attorney and experienced K-12 teacher, Betsy Renzo is the Executive Director of the Delaware Law Related Education Center (DELREC).  Prior to DELREC, Betsy was the Director of Advancement at the Community Education Building, in Wilmington. Betsy was a classroom teacher and program leader for ten years, teaching AP Government, Speech & Debate, Global Pease & Social Justice, and U.S. History.  Before teaching, she worked as an attorney in Pennsylvania, focusing on juvenile criminal justice and family law. It is a life goal of hers to create educational opportunities for all. Betsy believes that education is the most powerful tool we can give to our youth, and that strong economies need strong schools. She holds a JD from Temple University Beasley School of Law and a Master’s degree in Education from Stanford University.

 
CJ Williams, School Program Manager, worked for nearly 10 years in the foreign service's legal affairs department. He has volunteered as a youth inclusion advocate and for a youth empowerment program. He holds a Master's degree in diplomatic studies and a Bachelor's in political science and international studies. Aimee Elson, School Program Manager, is an attorney with experience in corporate law, at the University of Delaware, as a court-appointed child advocate, and with Delaware Youth & Rehabilitative Services. Aimee holds her JD and a Bachelor's in English. Contact: AElson@delrec.org
